“There’s more to it than that. I want people to see that,” Liam Neeson’s character explains bitterly in the “In The Land Of Saints And Sinners” trailer — and could also use it to speak ironically Irish giants speak about the career of the now 71-year-old. Since his outrageous one-man show in “96 Hours,” Neeson has been all about hard-hitting hit-and-run action, with the ex-character actor, once nominated for “Schindler’s List,” letting loose time and time again. And that’s despite the fact that he has repeatedly claimed that he is now slowly giving up on his late acting career.
Perhaps for this reason, the age of his characters is now more often discussed in the associated films. This was recently the case in ‘Memory – His Last Mission’, in which Neeson played a murderer suffering from Alzheimer’s. And also in the upcoming Neeson vehicle In The Land Of Saints And Sinners Robert Lorenz (the Neeson already in “The Markman‘ staged) the main character he embodied has had enough of an existence full of violence…
With the unrecognizable ‘Game Of Thrones’ star
The ex-hitman Finbar has made short work of countless people in his life. But now he wants to retire to a remote Irish village to put his past sins behind him. Easier said than done, of course, as his past soon catches up with him when three vengeful terrorists (led by scene thief Kerry Condon from The Banshees Of Inisherin) enter the scene…
Apparently as some kind of sidekick to Liam Neeson’s Finbar, a character from an earlier ‘Game of Thrones-Star is played, which many with dark hair and mustaches probably won’t recognize right away. Jack Gleeson starred as the sadistic Joffrey Baratheon in the hit fantasy series for four seasons – and then took it easy, probably due to the hatred he received from some fans for his convincing performance. In The Land Of Saints And Sinners is now only his third project since his last GoT episode in 2014.
Scandinavian mime Ciarán Hinds (“Belfast”, “Harry Potter”) and “Star Trek” veteran Colm Meaney join the illustrious cast of the thriller drama, which will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on September 6, 2023. It is not yet known when “In The Land Of Saints And Sinners” will come to Germany.
But the next part of Neeson action is already in the starting blocks: on September 14, the thriller “Retribution” will be released in German cinemas.
