Summer vacation is here! It’s time to relax on the beach, in the garden or at home on the balcony and re-read a good book. “I like to read in the summer and take a few books with me when I go on vacation,” bestselling author Blanca Imboden (60) tells Blick. The author has recently returned from a two-week vacation in Mallorca. “Because the weather was so bad, I read a lot and was able to relax wonderfully.” Blick explains to the Schwyz author six works that are particularly suitable for holiday reading right now.

one

“A Matter of Chemistry” by Bonnie Garmus

“The book was a gift. I would never have bought it myself because neither the title nor the cover made me want to read it. I enjoyed every line of it! The novel is set in 1961 and tells the story of Elizabeth Zott, who is actually a chemist but appears on a television cooking show because she is a woman. Meanwhile, she is a pragmatic, charming woman – but sadly way ahead of her time. This book is one of the best books I’ve read in recent times.

“The Enemy” by Christine Brand

I love Swiss crime writer Christine Brand. No matter what book you buy from it, you bring some clever excitement into your home. His new book “The Enemy” is about misogyny. And it’s usually very, very scary. I love how she writes, researches, calmly tells a bad story, and coolly draws her readers in. Christine Brand is really good. By the way, it is also worth attending a reading by him.

101 Essays That Will Change Your Life Brianna Wiest

Sometimes I have small crisis periods, mostly I argue with myself. At one of these moments, I ordered Brianna Wiest’s nonfiction book “101 Essays That Will Change Your Life.” It hasn’t turned my life upside down, but the book does provide interesting food for thought. It was absolutely fine for me. With this book, the American author wants to help us overcome harmful thought patterns and mental barriers. It was almost successful with me. I’m still working on it.

4

Conscious Murder by Karsten Dusse

I discovered Mindful Murder by Karsten Dusse in a library in Mallorca. The author makes fun of the self-help literature. The main character, a lawyer, is forced by his wife to attend an awareness seminar. He then commits his first murders completely according to the rules of awareness. I laughed and laughed a lot while reading this book. If you like dark humor and can tolerate unsolicited advice, you’ll love this book. I was so enthusiastic that I have since bought all of Karsten Dusse’s books. The last one is called “conscious murder on the edge of the world”.

5

“You Don’t Feel” by Daniel Glattauer

When I ordered Daniel Glattauer’s book, I was looking forward to a book like “Gut gegen Nordwind”. But the new bestseller “You Don’t Feel”, “How much is a human life worth?” It’s a dark family tragedy that asks big questions like A couple let their daughter take a Somali refugee boy on vacation in Tuscany. Then disaster: Aayana drowns in the pool. After that, everyone’s life goes off the rails. He looks at human abysses. Breathless, I followed the cleverly told story. It gave me some nightmares.

Matt Haig’s “Midnight Library”

This book by Matt Haig touched me deeply and I will never forget it. It is smart and encourages discussion with yourself. Nora Seed wants to kill herself, and on her way to the afterlife, she finds here a library full of lives she could have lived if she had made different choices. He finds the opportunity to examine all these lives. A deep and comforting book. Because in the end, what remains is for Nora Seed to realize that she hasn’t done as much wrong in her life as she thought, and that there are always ways to take her life in new ways.
