Played techno continuously for 5 years – now the terror neighbor is going to jail

Does your neighbor always leave his trash in the hallway? Or does he have parties in his apartment that are a bit too loud at times? As this story from Barcelona shows, things could have ended much worse for you. Because the court in Mataró sentenced a man to more than a year in prison for terrorizing his environment with electronic music for more than five years.

The horror began in 2012 when neighbors suddenly heard loud electronic music coming from the convict’s apartment. The victims asked him several times to adjust the volume. Yet the man played “Boom Boom continuously” day and night, as one of the accusers told “el Diario”. Even several visits by the police did not stop the convict from continuing to load the volume.

Several years later, three neighboring tenants finally got together and sued the music lover. They claimed that they suffered physically and mentally from the constant loud music. One suffered from insomnia and another had worsening Alzheimer’s symptoms. The music would also have constantly vibrated the facility.

The accused himself said in court: “I have never played music so loud that someone could disturb it.” However, the court ruled against him. He must pay damages of 18,000 euros and a fine of just over 2,000 euros. He is also serving a one-year and three-month prison sentence.
