As always, on Sunday we’ll introduce you to the exciting reboots on Netflix over the next seven days. This week the red N is a bit more relaxed. Besides the Sony Marvel blockbuster “Venom 2: Let There Be Carnage”, the biggest highlights are probably the sci-fi thriller “They Cloned Tyrone” starring Jamie Foxx. You can read here what else will happen to the streaming giant in the period from 17 to 23 July 2023. Of course, as always, neatly arranged by the days of the week.
Monday: Quiet start of the new week
As so often with Netflix, the new week starts off quite quietly and without significant reboots. A good opportunity to catch up on the most exciting titles of the past few days. Have you seen Mr. Funmobil and the Templars? The film has already won our hearts with its crazy title. Otherwise, horror fans can check out Bird Box: Barcelona, the Spanish spin-off of the genre hit, starring Sandra Bullock.
Tuesday: How long can you hold your breath?
Today starts with “The deepest breath“ a documentary where even the trailer puts us in acute respiratory distress. This is about the Italian diving champion Alessia Zecchini, who wants to set a freediving world record. This is an extreme sport where divers try to reach the greatest depths without proper equipment. The sport is an extreme strain on body and mind and repeatedly claims fatalities.
Wednesday: Marvel’s anti-hero unleashes it again
Even if we Venom 2: Let There Be Carnage didn’t like much – the Sony Marvel blockbuster only got 2 out of 5 stars in our review – it’s entirely possible to have a good time with the comic action figure. This is evident, for example, from the reviews on the review platform , where there is a huge discrepancy between the opinions of critics and viewers. While the aggregated reviews from the journalists are only 57% positive, audiences probably had a lot more fun with the sequel – the film scores a whopping 84% here. The sequel will be available to Netflix subscribers at no additional cost from Wednesday. So if you haven’t already, you can definitely give the movie a shot.
Thursday: Clone Mayhem with Jamie Foxx
Of “They Cloned Tyrone” Star-studded sci-fi mystery entertainment launches on Netflix on Thursday. “Star Wars” star John Boyega and Jamie Foxx (“Django Unchained”) admit that things aren’t right in their ghetto. When they want to investigate the case, they discover a secret laboratory. Not only is it packed with alien gadgets, but also clones of itself! And apparently even the US government has a finger in the pie…
If all this is too exciting for you, you might find it in the third season of “Sweet magnolias” Please. Again, it’s all about friends Maddie (JoAnna Garcia Swisher), Dana (Brooke Elliott) and Helen (Heather Headley) in the town of Serenity. Together they try to overcome the everyday madness between relationships, family and career.
Friday & Saturday: No exciting restarts
It’s been a bit quieter on Netflix this week, including on weekends. So it’s high time to finally go through a few titles from the infamous pile-of-shame or take a closer look at a few classics from the Netflix portfolio.
Sunday: directorial debut of Moritz Bleibtreu
Genre cinema is rather a rarity in Germany. All the better if an exciting contribution makes it to the cinemas. In 2020, Moritz Bleibtreu gave up “bark” made his debut as a director and screenwriter and tried his hand at a dark mystery thriller. Unfortunately, the result could not completely convince us. In our 2.5-star review, editor-in-chief Christoph Petersen draws the following conclusion:
But for filmmakers interested in the status of German genre cinema, it might be interesting to take a look.
Next week, Netflix’s release schedule will be a bit fuller again. Then, for example, the very last episodes of “The Witcher” with Henry Cavill begin. Thriller fans can also look forward to the “Bonn – Old Friends, New Enemies” series, which, after first airing on ARD, is now making its way to the streaming giant.
