That was never the case with “Mission: Impossible”: while several years normally elapse between the individual films in the agent series, “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning” is a two-part film. And if you can’t wait for the sequel after “Dead Reckoning Part One”, you have reason to be happy: the recordings are already partially completed and “Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning part two‘ is scheduled to run in German cinemas on June 27, 2024 – so in less than a year! And the course for a grandiose second half has already been set:
This is how it continues in “Dead Reckoning 2”.
Because of course the battle against the powerful entity and his accomplice Gabriel (Esai Morales) is far from won – even though Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and Co. currently dominate. In the end, during the confrontation of the film, Hunt was able to obtain the two-part key. And thanks to the (supposed) last words of Paris (Pom Klementieff), the agent also knows that he must take the key to the Sevastopol submarine and that it can be found somewhere in the Arctic.
At the same time, the entity in “Dead Reckoning Part 2” should also receive a digital collar in other respects. Than Luther (Ving Rhames) wants to try to hack the powerful AI and therefore said goodbye for the grand finale of Part 1 – Part 2 will show if he succeeds.
What remains exciting, however, is how Grace is doing (Hayley Atwell) continues — and not just because we finally want to know her real name. She joins the Impossible Mission Force (IMF) in the final minutes of Dead Reckoning Part One, but is now in close proximity to the elusive Eugene Kittridge (Henry Czerny).
Paris, already mentioned, is apparently not dead either, because Degas (Greg Tarzan Davis) surprisingly detects a pulse at the end of part 1. Did she really betray her boss Gabriel? Or was it all just a complicated ruse? And speaking of Gabriel, we’re sure there will be more details about his past with Ethan and the mysterious Marie (Mariela Garriga). Finally, there are still a number of unanswered questions.
It goes to the North Pole – including an old acquaintance
What we can already say: A certainly not unimportant part of “Dead Reckoning Part Two” will take place in the Arctic, ie where the Sevastopol sank. This is evident from countless photos that director Christopher McQuarrie posted on Instagram. And there Ethan Hunt meets an old acquaintance:
As McQuarrie revealed on Instagram, there is a reunion with in “Dead Reckoning Part 2”. Rolf Saxony as William Donloe. Donloe is the technician who works at the station that Ethan Hunt steals a list from in the iconic tightrope walking scene in Mission: Impossible. Since he wasn’t there at the crucial moment, he is transferred (by Eugene Kittridge, by the way!) to the North Pole – and it seems he still works there.
A character played by Lucy Tulugarjuk (“Atanarjuat – The Legend of the Swift Runner”) will also appear in the Arctic. However, there are no more details about this yet.
Many new stars on board
But there are a number of other stars whose participation in “Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two” has already become known: so will Get McCallany (“Mindhunter”) plays Secretary of Defense Bernstein while Nick Offerman (“The Last Of Us”) as a high-ranking general named Sydney. Moreover, it still is Janet McTeer (“Albert Nobbs”), whose character probably also belongs to the US government.
Hannah Waddingham from “Game Of Thrones” and “Ted Lasso” apparently plays a character on an aircraft carrier, “Dead Reckoning 2” was filmed on the USS George HW Bush. So part of the story takes place there as well. Director McQuarrie also hinted at that possibly too Angela Basset if (ex-) CIA boss Erika Sloane from “Mission Impossible – Fallout” could return.
As mentioned at the beginning, we will find out what else lies ahead in “Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two” on June 27, 2024 – however, this launch date is now in jeopardy due to the current strikes in Hollywood. “Mission Impossible 8” was partially filmed along with Part 7, but further filming was planned. Depending on how long Hollywood stands still, the sequel may have to be postponed…
