This is how Bentley shows at Goodwood how “green” it really is

We deliberately put the word “green” in brackets, because of course there is nothing environmentally conscious about a Bentley. The British luxury brand has only recently said goodbye to the W12 and now mainly sells models with a V8 engine. So this stunt with a Bentayga EWB is a bit scary…

But be careful, let’s not be too hard on Bentley. The brand has to start somewhere. And that with sustainable fuels that are obtained from straw waste. That’s why this Bentayga EWB pulls a trailer with 2.5 tons of straw.

Bentley fastest car with trailer

Bentley claims to have set an unofficial record at the Goodwood Hill Climb. With a start-finish time of 1.21 minutes, the Bentayga EWB is now the fastest trailer on the mini-track.

In addition, the manufacturer reports that all modern Bentleys will run on the aforementioned straw fuel at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The brand would have achieved a CO2 reduction of 85 percent.

Biofuel can be controversial

The biofuel from 2.5 tons of straw would give the Bentayga EWB a range of 1,770 kilometers, claims Bentley. No modification to the engine is required for this. The straw is broken down by fermentation into ethanol, which can be converted into ethylene and then into gasoline.

The use of biofuels has so far met with criticism, since agricultural land is required for its production in order to cultivate the necessary raw materials. By only packing rubbish, this problem is circumvented.

Consumption of the V8 “impressive”?

Bentley detracts from its story a bit by crediting the Bentayga EWB’s 550 hp, 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with “impressive fuel economy.” Subsequently, the brand does not mention how impressive this fuel consumption is.

This is probably intentional, because a WLTP consumption of 1 to 7.7 is of course not impressive at all. Or one should name the fact that the eight-cylinder is so inefficient.
