Tom Cruise is not only famous as the actor who pulls off almost all of his own stunts and draws audiences to the cinemas in droves. He’s also the celebrity who once jumped wildly on Oprah Winfrey’s couch, and whose Scientology membership continues to make headlines. When his daughter Suri was born, it was also rumored that Cruise wanted to eat the umbilical cord and placenta.
There are some strange things going around about Tom Cruise, just like any celebrity. But what Cruise thinks is the strangest story about himself is revealed by “Mission: Impossible 7“-Director Christopher McQuarrie in an article by who tries to debunk some of the myths surrounding the Superstar.
don’t look me in the eye…
McQuarrie says he once specifically asked Tom Cruise what the craziest rumor he’d ever heard about himself was. The answer: “That the people on the film set should not look me in the eye.”
Christopher McQuarrie can confirm this is not true (at least in his case), after all, the filmmaker has collaborated with Cruise several times, first in 2008 on “Operation Valkyrie – The Stauffenberg Attack”, for which McQuarrie wrote the screenplay. McQuarrie also vividly recalls his first encounter with Cruise during filming, when the actor told him he was “amusing the masses.”
At the time, Cruise was still working on the script himself in order to reach the largest possible audience with the film. But that doesn’t mean quality isn’t important to him. While the question often arises in the film industry whether you are an artist or want to provide entertainment, McQuarrie sees no contradiction between the two, according to Tom Cruise.
Swim trip with Tom Cruise
Christopher McQuarrie isn’t alone in knowing that Tom Cruise’s supposed “don’t look me in the eye” line belongs more in the realm of legend. Cruise’s co-star Simon Pegg also confirmed in the -Article that the superstar is actually quite approachable while filming. Pegg remembers Cruise meeting the team while filming”Mission: Impossible 7 – Dead Reckoning part onetook me by helicopter to swim with sharks.
On the one hand, Tom Cruise is this mysterious movie star that everyone wants to know about. “And then again, he’s just this guy. I like just hanging out with him,” Pegg said.
Normal or not: Tom Cruise has once again delivered great action cinema with “Mission Impossible 7” – this time even a 5-star masterpiece!
