“Mission: Impossible 7 – Dead Reckoning Part One” seems to be the blockbuster that the so far rather meager cinema summer of 2023 needs: Tom Cruise’s latest mission as Ethan Hunt gives the full 5 out of 5 of the FILMSTARTS for a reason editorial stars and the predicate masterpiece. And a look at the international trade press shows that we are far from alone in this. Sensational 98 percent positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes speak for themselves!
Of the currently 113 reviews counted on the review aggregation platform, 111 are rated positive, only two bummers have crept in (as of July 6, 2023). That alone does not necessarily say much, after all, 111 reviews can also be just right. But The average score of these 113 reviews is also impressive: 8.1 out of 10 points. A similar picture emerges from the review aggregator Metacritic, which calculates a very, very good average rating of 82 points out of 100 for “Mission: Impossible 7” from 41 reviews.
Better than Top Gun 2
To find a summer blockbuster that does as well or better, go back a few years to Pixar highlights like Toy Story 3 (2010) or Inside Out (2015), both of which also have 98 percent positive reviews . Beyond that, there’s little competition – not even from Tom Cruise himself:
Than “Mission: Impossible 6 – Fallout‘, the highest-rated installment of the series to date, has 97 percent positive ratings and even the mega hit”Top gun: Maverick“In 2022, ‘only’ 96 percent will have positive reviews. However, both films have a slightly better average rating of 8.4 and 8.2 out of 10 respectively – and significantly more reviews.
Of course, this should be said at this point: 113 reviews is already a significant number, but it remains to be seen how the so-called tomato meter will develop in “Mission: Impossible 7”.as more reviews are added in the coming days and weeks.
Better Than Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse
However, to date there is no recent blockbuster that has a better tomato meter than Dead Reckoning Part 1 At least we didn’t find any: neither “Knives Out” and “Mad Max: Fury Road” (both 97 percent), nor “Black Panther” (96 percent), nor “Avengers: Endgame” (94 percent) nor ” Spider-Man: No Way Home” (93 percent).
Even the one that only kicked off in early June 2023 and was met with acclaim across the board “Spider-Man: About the Spider-Verse“only” comes to 96 percent positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. But here too the average rating is much higher (namely 8.6 out of 10 points) and many more reviews have been assessed.
“Mission: Impossible 7 – Dead Reckoning Part One” opens in German cinemas on July 13, 2023.
