‘Titanic’: Eternal fascination with tragedy?

– Not even God would sink it. That phrase about the Titanic remained recorded in posterity as one of the most unfortunate in history. “Practically unsinkable,” they said of the luxury ship that tragically sank after colliding with an iceberg on the night of April 14, 1912. Due to a series of human errors and bad luck, 1,517 people lost their lives.

Now, 111 years later, the most famous ocean liner in history has took five lives more: those of the crew members who were on the Titan, the submarine that imploded on June 18 as they descended to visit the wreckage.

Therefore, there are many who give the unfortunate coincidence a name and speak of the “curse of the Titanic”, as a legend of a ghost ship that, despite time, is still associated with the disaster.

And that’s it, as it comes back into trend social networks and derivative works on its history are becoming fashionable again, it is true that the Titanic continues to evoke a magnetic fascination.

Collapse

When on April 10, 1912, the RMS titanic began its first and last voyage, many of those who made it possible dreamed of going down in history for creating the most luxurious ship.

However, the reason why the ship from White Star Line made headlines and took a place in the annals for future generations, it was much more tragic: the Titanic, said to be “indestructible”, sank to the bottom of the sea taking with it more lives than the survivors it left behind.

Only 706 out of 2,223 people survived, including passengers and crew.’

“I knew there was an implosion,” concluded James Cameron, the director of “Titanic” (1997), after learning that communication with the submarine Titan had been lost.

“Security is bullshit,” said Stockton Rush, CEO of OceanGate, admitting he “broke some rules.”

From the bottom of the sea to the annals of history

And it is about the fact that there are theories, although they are impossible to prove, which claim that the liner could have continued its voyage if it had collided head-on. And, if he had been able to turn a few seconds earlier, he would have been able to avoid the iceberg.

Furthermore, if the SS Californian, 20 miles from titanicIf he hadn’t mistaken the aid rockets for celebratory fireworks, he might have made it in time to pick up the passengers.

an eternal legend

Of course, the story of the Titanic was also recreated various derivative works. The most famous of them, the 1997 film directed by James Cameron and starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.

The film made history at the Oscars by winning 11 golden statuettes. And now it’s resurfacing 26 years later in light of what happened to Titan, as there are many who want to relive the story through fiction and be touched again by the mythical love drama between Jack and Rose.

A shipwreck that makes a shipwreck

James Cameron made 33 dives to the ship, some of them to shoot his movie. And, as someone experienced in the field, he knew what happened to the Titan when he learned that the link and tracking were lost: “The first explanation that came to my mind was an implosion,” the director told ABC News.
