The “Harry Potter” series is not only characterized by a wonderful and magical world that you will love to discover again and again, but also by many very talented actors* who really bring this world to life. While most stars have enjoyed starring in Harry Potter, British actress Miriam Margolyes is a little more indifferent.
Miriam Margolyes was in “Harry Potter and the secret room” as in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2in the role of herbal medicine professor Sprout. And it’s not just in the movies that Margoyles seems to have played fair skin, in reality she’s apparently not at all embarrassed to openly speak her mind.
Margolyes revealed the following about her involvement in the Harry Potter series voiced: “It doesn’t mean as much to me as it does to the others. To me ‘Harry Potter’ wasn’t really important. I was very happy with the role, of course, and I enjoyed playing in it and meeting all the people, but it’s not Charles Dickens.“
While her words also show that she doesn’t despise (or regret being a part of) the hit fantasy series, Harry Potter is arguably a part of her life that doesn’t make her dwell on memories. Her performance – especially in “The Chamber of Secrets” – was quite memorable, although she was only seen in action on screen for a few minutes.
More clear words from Miriam Margolyes
It is not the first time that Miriam Margolyes has noticed that she does not mince words. In January 2019, she made the statement that she can’t handle kids at all. She explained that, of course, she does not wish anything bad on a child, but avoids being close to them. Her shooting for the “Harry Potter” films, surrounded by children, must not have been very pleasant for the Briton.
Moreover, she complained about that last year not getting enough money for the Harry Potter movies. According to his own statement, it should be about 60,000 pounds (about 70,300 euros). But Margolyes also admitted that she would understand why she was paid less money than her peers, after all, her role was relatively small compared to Ralph Fiennes, Helena Bonham Carter, Maggie Smith or Alan Rickman.
By the way: the comparison between “Harry Potter” and the legendary author Charles Dickens (who wrote “Oliver Twist”, among other things) may not be related only to the literary quality. Margoyles co-wrote and starred in the 1989 one-woman show Dickens’ Women, playing 23 characters from a Dickens novel. She also starred in the ten-part documentary series Dickens In America. So it is understandable that Charles Dickens has a greater importance in the life of the actress.
