There are people who have made it their life’s mission to find mistakes, Easter eggs and small and big surprises in films and series. Of course, those responsible for the projects in question know this too. Therefore, of course, secret details can not only be found in cinema series such as the MCU, “Star Wars” or “The Fast And The Furious”, but also in series such as “Game Of Thrones”.
In the fifth episode of the seventh season “Game Of Thrones” (“Ostwacht”) there is a very special Easter Egg, in which Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Dhanerys’ (Emilia Clarke) dragon, Drogon, come face to face for the first time. It’s a special moment because it also makes it clear that the winged beasts sense that Jon Snow is actually a Targaryen. You can watch the whole scene here:
The special thing about this moment: In the critically acclaimed 2010 animated film “How to Train Your Dragon”, there is a very similar moment where Hiccup (voiced by Jay Baruchel in the original) cautiously approaches the Toothless Dragon. You can see the accompanying scene, which the creators of “Game Of Thrones” apparently used as a little orientation, in the following 4 minute 33 second clip.
It is of course not known whether it is really a conscious tribute that the “Game Of Thrones” makers have incorporated here. However, it seems pretty clear that How To Train Your Dragon was the model for Jon Snow and Drogon’s first meeting. In any case, both scenes are a highlight in their own right. And just like in “Game Of Thrones”, in the fantasy world of “How to Train Your Dragon” the relationship between humans and dragons plays a major, if not crucial, role.
Fun fact: In “How to Train Your Dragon 2 & 3”, which were made before (part 2) and after (part 3) the seventh season of “Game Of Thrones”, Jon Snow actor Kit Harington was part of the original voice-over about as the dragon hunter Eret Cast.
