Sure, director Luke Sparke’s “Occupation” is clearly not a huge Hollywood project with a mega budget. But if you like sci-fi action, it could be much worse. Especially since this Australian genre contribution brings out some pretty prominent faces in the cast – especially Temuera Morrison. The New Zealander embodied the cult bounty hunter Boba Fett in the “Star Wars” series “The Mandalorian” and “The Book of Boba Fett”, as well as his father Jango Fett in “Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones”.
“Occupation“ runs today, June 15, 2023 at 8:15 PM on Tele 5. A repeat airs at 2:30 that same night. If these dates do not suit you, you can stream the film FSK 12 for free in the broadcaster’s media library until June 22, 2023. It is also available as a Blu-ray, DVD or paid stream from online retailers such as Amazon:
If you like “Occupation”, you can continue with the sequel “Project Rainfall”. The movie is currently part of the Amazon Prime Video streaming subscription and can be viewed by all subscribers at no additional cost.
“Appeal” on Tele 5: That’s the story
An advanced alien civilization has ruined its own planet and is forced to find a new world to live on. The choice falls on our earth – the only ones who are still disturbing are the people. A violent invasion ensues, in which the local army is no match for the weapons of the newcomers.
Thus, the communication possibilities on our planet are rapidly collapsing. So no one knows that in a small Australian town there are a handful of people fighting passionately. The group around citizens Matt (Dan Ewing), Peter (Temuera Morrison) and Amelia (Stephanie Jacobsen) do everything they can to defend their homeland and thus set an example for others…
Temuera Morrison: From soap opera to action star
Born in 1960 in Rotorua in New Zealand’s North Island, Temuera Morrison became involved in local TV projects as a teenager. His national breakthrough came in 1992 as a clinician on Shortland Street, the country’s highest-grossing soap opera. Belonging to the indigenous Māori people, the mime first attracted global attention with his role as an abusive husband in the critically acclaimed and award-winning social drama “The Last Warrior”, which also ran successfully in arthouse cinemas in Germany.
Since then, Morrison’s appearances in international, especially Australian and American productions have increased. He could already be experienced in “Barb Wire”, “Speed 2” or “DNA – Experiment des Madness” in the 90s. He then joined the Star Wars franchise in 2002, playing bounty hunter Jango Fett in Episode II Attack of the Clones and clone commander Cody in Episode III Revenge of the Sith. He also lent his voice to Jango’s son, Boba Fett, in the special edition of “Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back”.
Many years later, when the character Boba Fett appeared in the second season of the popular Disney+ series The Mandalorian, the actor was asked to physically assume the role. Soon after, he also landed the title role in the spin-off series The Book of Boba Fett. In addition, Morrison still had time to appear in other major titles, such as DC’s movie mega hit “Aquaman”, as well as smaller films such as “Occupation”. Especially with the latter, we see that the Kiwi, despite his advanced age, is a more than passable action hero and clearly enjoys such challenges.
