“Bambi” is still one of the greatest, most important and most beautiful Disney classics ever. The first memory that many people associate with “Bambi” is not at all pleasant: anyone who saw in early childhood the story of the little fawn, who gradually rises to master of the forest, will surely also have experienced a small trauma. Because the scene in which Bambi’s mother is shot by hunters is still one of the most heartbreaking movie moments.
As is now the norm at Disney, the major animation milestones are all getting live-action remakes one at a time. After “Arielle, the Mermaid”, which is currently playing in the cinemas, “Bambi” will soon be picked up and with it the great task of doing justice to the nostalgic sensibilities of many people in a contemporary way. And for this they apparently secured the services of an interesting filmmaker.
An Oscar winner as ‘Bambi’ director?
This has been reported by several reliable sources Sarah Poley is about to direct the upcoming live-action adaptation of Bambi. Polley won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay at this year’s Academy Awards for “Women Talking,” based on real events. Polley also directed the critically acclaimed documentary Stories We Stell and the romantic comedy Take This Waltz starring Michelle Williams and Seth Rogen, and was also an actress (e.g. Dawn Of The Dead by Zack Snyder).
“Bambi” is currently still in the very early stages of development. Due to the possible involvement of Sarah Polley, the project can already be seen as quite ambitious. The film is rumored to be a musical and six-time Grammy winner Kacey Musgraves will be providing the music. The script was written by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster. But this could be reviewed again by Sarah Polley. Bambi is also produced by Chris (New Moon) and Paul Weitz (American Pie).
