‘Doll Illusion’ deals with gender identity

This week, the work “Illusion of the Doll”, which deals with the issue of gender identity, will be premiered.

It is a monologue that will be interpreted by the artist transgender Ali Dakini and created from his life experience.

The project aims to answer the specific question: What does it mean to be trans in Panama?

To promote artistic research deep on the right to exist in freedom: That possibility that human beings have to explore, develop and live their identity on the basis of who we truly are, and not on the basis of what society imposes on us.

It is the first play in which a person acts a transgender person in Panama

The aim of this very important project for the country is to contribute building society fairer for everyone, everything and everyone; through the visibility of the Panamanian trans community and its historic struggle to win basic human rights that are still denied to them.

“Model Illusion” It will premiere at the Guild Theater in Ancón on June 15th and will run until the 17th of this month.

Actor

At 28 years old, But the Dakinis It’s one of the young tattoo artists the most respected on the Panamanian scene. Additionally, as an emerging artist, he explores and breaks into other disciplines such as fanzines and illustration, as well as clothing design and production.

This desire to try new artistic languages ​​led him to accept the challenge of acting “Model Illusion”, his first play. Because he is convinced that by sharing his experience on stage, he will be able to help more people, thus becoming a voice of encouragement and pride for the trans community in Panama.

Winnie T. Sitton He has been an actor, playwright, director and producer since 1997, and is studying at Costa Rica, Spain, Mexico and Argentina.

He wrote and directed 10 plays and more than 10 monologues in Stand up comedy.

Winner of the Ricardo Miró National Literary Competition in 2011 (the biggest literary award in Panama) with the work “¡A por ellos!”.
