Panama defines the U-23 team for the tournament in France

The Panama Under-23 team already has its selections to face the prestigious Maurice Revello vs. tournament known as the Esperanzas de Toulon tournament for the second year in a row, which will be held in France from June 5-18.

Jorge Dely Valdés, head of the national bench, submitted the list of invitees who will go to European soil to compete in the 49th edition of the former Torneo Esperanzas de Toulon.

The 22-man roster consists of 19 members of the Panamanian Football League (LPF), plus three players who play foreign football.

The U-23 team played their last warm-up game on Tuesday in a friendly at the Luis Cascarita Tapia Stadium and are now ready to travel to French territory.

In total, those led by Jorge Dely played seven work cycles and four warm-up games against local teams.

As for the competition, the coach emphasized the importance of the tournament and its significance for the newly emerging elements of national football.

“I had the opportunity to participate in the Under-20 World Cup, the Under-17 World Cup, and this is a completely different tournament,” said Jorge Dely.

“It is one of the most prestigious tournaments in Europe and I am proud to represent Panama in this tournament,” added the coach.

The national team is preparing to travel to Marseille, France in two groups. One leaves this Wednesday, May 31 at night, and the other on Thursday, June 1, also at night.

Panama U-23 were drawn in Group C of the competition along with Ivory Coast, Japan and Morocco who joined at the last minute instead of Bolivia.

The national eleven will make their debut next Wednesday, June 7, when they face opponents from the Ivory Coast at the Parsemain Stadium, in the French municipality of Fos-sur-Mer.
