The government continues with the plan to promote the social rent. And another 15,000 are still under construction, a process that the Ministry of Economy already admits could take two or three years.
Figures presented by the department of Calviño confirm that the majority 21,000 homes who will be mobilized are concentrated in Valencia (4,950), Catalonia (3,539), Castilla and León (2,288), Murcia (2,093) and Andalusia (2,040). Above a thousand are Castilla-La Mancha (1,534) and Galicia (1,285), while Cantabria (611), Aragón (580), Madrid (455), La Rioja (388), Extremadura (305), Canarias (303), Asturias ( 171), the Balearic Islands (120), the Basque Country (81) and Navarre (25) have a much smaller offer.

The government’s plan is based on three fundamental pillars. The first of them are houses that are already available for new tenants to move into. There are only about 9,000 of them. Due to those properties which the Government assumes are already available, some 12,000 require thorough renovation. Namely, due to their poor condition, they are awaiting adaptation. It takes between eight and nine months to be ready.
The second pillar of the project is another 14,000 houses that are already part of it affordable housing program and social and where families in vulnerable situations currently live. The Government offers them contracts on social rent in order to regulate their situation.
And the last stage features 15,000 more floors that have yet to be built. It is about the so-called Vienna project for which buildings on Sareb land in public-private cooperation. The executive assured this Tuesday that the tenders for the development of these projects could begin to be published this summer, but it will take two to three years for them to be available. And time runs against the Government, because the activity of management Sareb I would have to stop in 2027.
