Digicel: Users will have one month to look for another operator

Digicel prepaid and postpaid customers will have 30 days to complete the migration process to other operators, the company announced this Wednesday.

The process of change began on March 20 and will culminate the next on April 20, 2024.

The measure was adopted after the National Public Services Administration closed the public bidding process for the award of a new concession for the management and exploitation of personal communication services and for the purchase and sale of certain Digicel assets.

In accordance with ASEPno one was interested in taking over from Digicel.

First, the company General International Telecom Panama started the process of homologating the terms of the public tender, but then announced that it did not want to continue.

Subsequently, a new foreign operator showed interest in participating in the purchase and sale of certain goods, but a few days ago he also regretted it.

ASEP emphasizes that engineer Alex Arroyo, in his role as intervener, will continue to oversee the completion of the process.

In April 2022, Digicel requested the initiation of voluntary liquidation proceedings before the regular jurisdiction of Panama.

“According to the law, those requests will be resolved at that stage,” he claims.

Digicel thanked for the support it had for almost 16 years in the country, after arriving as the third operator on the market.
