The Panama U-23 baseball team has entered the final stage of preparations for the World Cup, which will be held from November 24 to 30 in Nicaragua.
“We are entering the last part of training for the World Cup. The preparations have been strong, because we know what will happen to us from Panama, Cristóbal Girón.
The Panamanians were in Group B along with Venezuela, Cuba, Colombia, Curacao and Costa Rica.
“It’s important for us to get to the tournament with the rhythm of the game, especially because the tournament is extremely short,” Girón said.
The coach noted that the team will travel to Nicaragua this Friday. For the Panama coach, there is a long way to go before the start of the championship.
“It would be ideal if we left two days before, so that the boys could have a preparatory match with the teams that come earlier, but due to various situations we have to,” he commented.
“We have the teams to compete. I have a lot of confidence in the guys we have picked and the game system we have. We are not a strong team so we will have to resort to playing small ball,” he said.
Panama will make their World Cup debut on November 25 against Colombia, with James González as their starter. The next day they have a duel with Venezuela. And on the 27th, they will meet Curacao.
