Shopping centers: 15,000 jobs will not be filled

More than 15,000 temporary jobsassociated with the end-of-year season, they won’t be busy because of the crisis the country is going through, he warned Panama Association of Shopping Centers (Apacecom).

According to the association, they are faced with the risk that many business owners will be forced to lay off staff in order to alleviate the consequences of the social crisis.

Apacecom’s statement states that this sector not only generates more than 50,000 direct and indirect jobsbut it is also a tourist destination for thousands of foreigners visiting the country, exerting a direct influence on the logistics, food, tourism and shopping sectors.

They explained that significant economic losses are evident in the country, to which is added the population’s fear of leaving and the restriction of the fundamental right to free movement.

“Our sector has been deeply affected in the midst of this crisis, facing significant losses that could result in the inability to cover the day-to-day costs of our suppliers,” the note added.

They add that hundreds of associates were harmed by not coming to their workplaces, which created a crisis in generating the income needed to meet financial obligations.

Considering this scenario, Apacecom asks the Government of the Republic to undertake specific and concrete actions that guarantee social peace, accessibility and safety for everyone.

“We respect the legal order and national legislation; However, it is imperative to maintain public order and, in particular, to set a good example for all those people who have placed their trust in Panama to do their jobs, establish themselves and, above all, contribute to Panama is a better nation”, they consider in the association.

They call on all the institutions that have a fundamental role in this situation to resolve once and for all and stop the damage they are currently experiencing.
