CCIAP demands an immediate moratorium on mining from the Government

The Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Panama (CCIAP) requested this Thursday according to People’s government to decree a moratorium on the granting of mining concessions for both exploitation and exploration, and to set as soon as possible a date for the revision and strengthening of the Code on Mineral Resources, which will enable defining the country’s future in this matter.

Likewise, the business union proposes the transformation and unification of the institutions that currently supervise the existing concessions.

The Chamber of Commerce proposes the creation of a body that has the necessary and technically qualified resources for strict and rigorous monitoring, auditing and supervision of activities, and that in turn it is supervised by the Supervisory Commission, a representative of civil society.
