Panama secures first place in Group A at the Pan American Games

Panama defeats Mexico 8-2 to remain undefeated in baseball at the Pan American Games, Santiago 2023, in a game held at the Baseball and Softball Center in the municipality of Cerritos in the city of Santiago.

The team that scored first was Mexico, who scored their two runs in the fourth inning, on walks by Fernando Villegas and Roberto Ramos, after an unstoppable RBI by Roberto Valenzuela.

But the Panamanian back nine led by Hipólita Ortiz responded in the fifth inning, with the bases loaded, taking advantage of an error by Mexican pitcher Faustino Cabrera at first base that brought Luis Castillo and Jhadiel Santamaría into the bullpen.

Then Cabrera himself made a wild throw that was used by Jason Patterson to put Panama up 3-2.

Panama extended their lead in the game in the sixth inning with a home run by Eduardo Thomas in the sixth inning to make it 4-2.

But in the seventh chapter, Panama scored four straight, to leave the game 8-2.

Luis Machuca won the match for Panama, Aldo Montes lost.

Panama, which went first in Group A with (3-0) awaits its opponent this Friday, Mexico was second (2-1).

The Panama national team will have to wait for the first in group B, and that could be Brazil, who have (2-0) and who today in a key match against Cuba (1-1).

The second match in Group B today, Venezuela (1-1) faces Colombia without a chance having (0-2).
