The government extends price controls for six months

The Directorate for Consumer Protection and Defense of Market Competition (Acodeco) reported that the National Government extended by six months price control of 18 food products.

The measure is due Executive Decree No. 11 of July 18, 2023 which states in its first article that “the validity of Executive Decree No. 165 of July 1, 2014 and its corresponding amendments is extended by six months, as provided for in Article 200 of Law 45 of 2007.

The 18 products which remain under price control are:

Steak with bone. ($2.55 per pound; $5.62 per kilogram).

choke (lb 2.99; kg 6.60).

first minced meat (excludes special kosher and low gauzes). (lb 2.15; kg 4.74).

Whole panama chicken (with legs and head). (lb 1.18; kg 2.60).

first class rice (all presentations). (lb $0.40; kg $0.88).

Quality lens of the lower 2nd class. (lb $0.81; kg $1.79).

Palm or soybean vegetable oil in a container of 1.42 to 1.5 liters. (each 3.74).

Macaroni (spaghetti) in packages of 425-454 grams, excluding sizes 3 to 5, whole grains and carrot and spinach flavors. (0.63)

elbows 454 grams. (0.69)

Tuna in water, pieces, canned 170 grams. (1.31).

Sardines in tomato sauce, without spiciness, can of 155 grams. (0.51).

Powdered milk (full-fat, instant with a content of 345 to 400 grams), excludes dairy products, milk for growth and infant formulas. (3.76).

Sausages containing beef (includes those sold in bulk or in 1-pound packages; excludes imported hot dogs, smoked, cocktail, light, jumbo, gluten-free, Angus, kosher, low sodium, with cheese). (lb 1.19; kg 2.62).

The codec To date, this year, 603 direct fines in the amount of $258,000.00 have been applied to various economic entities throughout the country, for non-compliance with price controls for 18 products in the basket of basic foodstuffs.

Mini-supermarkets, with 375 sanctions for $115,000.00take the top spot, followed by supermarkets, 84 ($93,687.50) and grocery stores, 78 ($20,375.00).
