Unions and employers in negotiations last Wednesday, July 12. Author: Oscar Vazquez
Social agents negotiating the metal contract in Pontevedra conditioned the possibility of an agreement on the last day of negotiations. Unions and employers have not reached a common place in fourteenth meeting celebrated in Vigo and they were used for Monday at 10:00. it will be a pact in extremis or will it be a indefinite strike from July 18. they are invited 33,000 workers of 3,700 companies from all over the province and would coincide with the celebration of the European summit in the city fishingwhich will be attended by ministers from 27 countries.
At yesterday’s meeting, there was progress on both sides, but it was not enough. Over it salariesbusiness side (Asime, Atra and Instalectra) offered a wage increase of more than 0.5% in 2023, so wage growth would be as follows: 2.5% this year, 3% in 2024 and 3% in 2025. CC.OO., CIG and UGT They also put an advance on the table: 4% in 2023, 4% in 2024 and 3.5% in 2025. That is, they would decrease by 0.5% in the last year of the agreement.
On the other hand, employers accept salary update with CPI review, but the social part considers it “not effective” because it is limited to 1%. Regarding the reduction of hours in metal, the business part offers 4 hours less than in 2024so they would be 12 hours less worked since then. The union side, for its part, demands that 24 hours less in every financial year and from 2023. But the factories made another proposal in this block: that 8 hours are their own affairs, so that the factory does not have to interrupt its activity. No progress for private surrogacy that the social part requires.
“It is true that both the employer and the union side have moved the boundaries and their positions to try to reach an agreement, but the business side has shown that, at least hoxe, they have no intention of reaching an agreement,” says Celso Carnero, Secretary of Industry CC.OO. Xulio Fernández, from CIG, calls it “impossible” to reach an agreement “before the employer’s proposal”. “We will ask for mediation AGAIN Let’s see if anyone has common sense in all this”, the unions explain. Given that the conflict is entrenched, they believe the Galicia Industrial Relations Council will talk to both sides to find common ground and reach an agreement.
