The construction sector already has its own cluster, which initially starts with about forty members, incl the main companies in the sector which represents 12% of Galicia’s economic activity. This new figure, which was assembled under the formula of the foundation and the name of Galicia Construye, does so with Diego Vázquez Reina as president. Yesterday, the official presentation of the new entity was held in Santiago, which was attended by numerous representatives of the sector and Alfonso Rueda, president of Xunta, the board that contributes half a million euros (100,000 this year) for this foundation. An entity that gives special value to the wood, stone, aluminum and concrete sectors, with a concept that avoids the meaning of the brick sector, because they believe that this meaning avoids their work as builders of hospitals, schools, water treatment plants and large public infrastructure.
“This cluster brings together a heterogeneous group of sectors dedicated to excellence, innovation and sustainability”the president pointed out in a speech in which he also alluded to the fact that Galicia Build will work to drive growth “prosperous, sustainable and innovative” through “to cooperation and exchange of knowledge”.
“We are the two shepherds who built the facade of the cathedral in Santiago,” added Daniel Hermosillaone of the vice presidents of the entity, who dedicated his speech to reminding the historical weight of the sector, pointing out that “Galicia’s landscape is built”, as evidenced by the tower of Hercules or the wall of Lugo do kastros. With such a legacy, Hermosilla is betting that Galicia will become an international benchmark for, for example, the contribution “products made in a factory and assembled on site”.
Get The sustainability of the sector is one of the priority goals of the new cluster. This was also witnessed by Antonio Pons, at the same time the vice president of the entity, who in his presentation reminded of the inalienable goal. reduce polluting emissions by 55% by 2030 as an introduction to ecological neutrality by 2050.
The importance of the challenge is evident from the data presented by Pons himself in his speech, pointing out that the sector affects 50% of Galicia’s natural resources, consumes 40% of energy and 16% of water, creates 40% of waste and emits 36% of greenhouse gases. And in the face of a tradition “which throughout history has been resistant to change and innovation, i these changes occurred later than other sectors due to its fragmentationthis vice president confirms that Galicia has a “unique opportunity for more sustainable construction”.
Alfonso Rueda, president of Xunta, participated in the presentation Galicia Construe cluster and pointed out the convenience of the existence of this cluster because it is considered a “important interlocutor”. From the sector itself, he highlighted its strategic value for development Xunta public works projects, with an amount estimated at 130 million euros.
