Camille and Kate often seem quite different in their choice of clothing. The Queen Consort tends to favor more neutral tones, while the Princess of Wales opts for bold, vibrant hues. However, their sense of style is not as different as it might seem at first glance. It’s not just a shared love of rustic chic.
Camilla and Prince William’s wife regularly dress in remarkably similar ways, from polka dot dresses to green bows. Fashion critics sometimes even think Camilla is Kate’s stepmother and take note of what she wears. One of the most popular pieces that both women love is the coat dress.
In 2016, Kate wore a bold red dress by Katherine Walker. Middleton wore it to the Order of the Garter ceremony, paired with a matching Lock & Co hat. A few years later, in 2021, Camille was seen in a similar ensemble at the opening of the Welsh Senedd in Cardiff. Inspired by Kate, she teamed the bright dress with a matching feathered hat.
The Royal Fashion Twins were also spotted out and about in a similar pair of shoes and jacket. Kate visited a Teagasc research farm during a visit to Dublin. She opted for a rustic style when she wore a green Dubarry jacket with Penelope Chilvers boots in 2020. Camille appeared at the National Arboretum a few months later wearing a Musto Whisper jacket and Dubarra boots.
Both ladies of the royal family were seen in similar evening dresses. In 2017, when Kate attended the Royal Variety Show in London, she wore a sky blue dress studded with precious stones. Designed by Jenny Packham. And in 2021, Camilla wore a similar style dress designed by Bruce Oldfield.
While Camilla often seems to draw on Kate’s fashion experiences, the Princess of Wales is also inspired by Parker Bowles herself. They were seen wearing a similar blue Shalwar Kameez during royal tours. Camilla was first spotted wearing this outfit during a tour of Brunei in 2017. Kate wore hers, designed by Katherine Walker, in Pakistan in 2019.
Kate appears to have followed her mother-in-law’s lead with Camilla’s navy polka dot jumpsuit from 2006. In 2022, according to the Daily Mail, Middleton wore a similar Alessandra Rich skirt and top to the men’s singles final at Wimbledon.
