The curse of “The Master and Margarita”: the actors who died after filming the series based on the Zvezda novel

On October 2, 2005, shortly before the premiere of the series, 47-year-old Alexander Chaban died. The actor played the investigator who led the search for Woland. The body of the artist was found in his apartment, and the circumstances of the death remained unclear. In September 2006, another actor of the episode died – Pavel Komarov, who played the thief on the pier. In the same year, Stanislav Landgraf, who played the critic Latunský, died of a heart attack.

On April 27, 2007, Kirill Lavrov, who played Pontius Pilate, died of leukemia. On the same day, another episodic actor Yevgeny Merkuriev died. He fell through the ice while fishing.

Alexander Abdulov played Korovyev, a demon from Woland’s retinue. Two years after the premiere, the actor became a father for the first time: in March 2007, lawyer Yulia Meshina gave birth to a daughter, Zhenya. And five months later, Abdulov underwent emergency surgery for a perforated ulcer, after which he began to have heart problems. The actor’s condition worsened, and in September 2007, the actor was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. Abdulov died on January 3, 2008, three months before his only daughter’s first birthday.

In 2007, Zolotukhin, who played the role of Nikanor Barefoot in the series, lost his son. The soloist of the rock group “Dead Dolphins” Sergei Zolotukhin hanged himself at home. After 5 years, the artist himself died: he died at the age of 71 from brain cancer.

On April 7, 2008, Andrei Tolubeev died of pancreatic cancer – he was 63 years old. The actor voiced the character of Alois Mogarych, a journalist who wrote the Master’s denunciation.

Galkin, who played the poet Ivan Homeless, died in 2010 aged 38 of cardiac arrest. The doctors participating in the autopsy made an unequivocal conclusion: Galkin’s body was worn out by nervous exhaustion and alcohol abuse.

On November 11, 2012, Ilya Oleinikov, who played Variety’s CFO Grigory Rimsky, died of lung cancer. The actor was 65 years old.
