“I didn’t want to stop competing. I have big problems with my back. The nerves in my back had to be removed as well (it’s called denervation) but it still didn’t help. At the age of 18-19 the pain was constant, at a certain point I just couldn’t physically pull anymore my level. That’s why it was decided to add professional sports. I really miss competitions, on the other hand, life is calmer without them,” Medvedeva explained.

In 2018, there were rumors that Evgenia might change her citizenship and play for Armenia. Now, such a move would allow Medvedeva, as well as other athletes, to resume performances in international competitions. However, the Olympic silver medalist assured that such talk about her does not correspond to reality.

“I never even thought about it. I was born and raised in Russia. This country has given me everything I have at this moment. But I will not deny my Armenian roots.
