Roman Kostomarov had the fingers of his left hand amputated due to gangrene 24.03.2023, 08:05

The Olympic champion has been fighting for her life for the third month in the intensive care unit of Kommunarka, where she ended up with a severe form of pneumonia. In connection with gangrene in February, Kostomarov’s feet were amputated, then his lower legs and his right hand. The left hand of the figure skater caused serious concern among the doctors, they decided on another operation. Surgeons amputated the fingers of this hand.

“The amputation of the fingers was necessary because they started turning black, which meant the process of gangrene had started in the hand,” said a hospital source. – In this case, every hour, minute is important, this process is ongoing and soon it could go to the whole brush. Why is this happening? Any doctor will answer – the lungs do not work at full capacity, oxygen is not supplied to the vessels and so on. Kostomarov already has many reasons that lead to such a result. He survived so many surgeries and amputations! If the process goes further (it is constantly monitored by doctors), then the patient will be urgently prepared for the amputation of the entire left hand.”

The forty-six-year-old athlete has recently lost a lot of weight. Taťana Navka’s ex-partner now weighs just 50kg with a height of 182cm, but was taken off the ventilator last week. His wife Oksana Domnina takes care of Roman, they communicate. The patient’s condition is assessed as stabilized.

“He alternates between being conscious and then falling into a deep sleep because he’s been given lots of painkillers and sedation. He is fed by his wife, who is always nearby, or by a nurse. But he behaves conscious, sometimes aggressively. His mental, moral state, no matter how calmed the athlete is, is on the edge. A person understands everything, he understands what is happening to him… Yes, it is very, very difficult for him, “said a source from the MK hospital.

The former doctor of the Russian national team in ski jumping and Nordic combined spoke about the main danger for Kostomarov. Andrej Zvonkov said that the progressive sepsis and the blueness of Roman’s hand could indicate Raynaud’s syndrome.

Julia Nachalová’s father expressed the opinion that the athlete fell into the same trap as the singer. Roman hoped that the body would overcome the cold, but that is not always the case. “My daughter did not consider the wound on her leg to be a big problem,” complained Viktor Nachalov. The actress died in March 2019.
