Priyanka Chopra was born in Jamshedpur, India, but moved to the United States with her mother at the age of 13. Growing up was difficult for her: as she herself admitted, she faced racial prejudice and also had complexes about her clumsiness. Priyanka loved to dance and write stories – she was creative in general. And then she was caught by fire and the desire to become an actress.
To draw attention to herself, someone advised her to start participating in beauty contests. In her senior year, she returned to India and participated in the May Queen competition there. The winner was Priyanka who immediately won a lot of fans – they even had to put bars on the windows in the house. Her triumphant parade through beauty contests continued and in 2000 she made it to the main competition – the Miss World competition. Chopra beat all the contestants to take the crown – she was just 18 years old.
Former rivals, it seems, still can’t forgive Priyanka for her success. Thus, in 2022, a contestant from Barbados, Leilani McConnie, said that Chopra’s victory was rigged, and she herself called Priyanka an “unpleasant person”.
Whatever it was, the “Miss World” title opened up a whole new range of possibilities for Priyanka. She made a career in Bollywood and then conquered Hollywood.
