Chulpan Khamatova flew to Georgia: the actress gets a job in a Russian drama theater 03.09.2023, 16:05

The theater and film star left Russia in February last year. After that, Chulpan had to leave Moscow’s Sovremennik theater, which had been excellent for many years. She left the great career she had built in her homeland and settled in Latvia.

The People’s Artist of Russia was accepted into the troupe of the New Theater in Riga, but it turned out to be difficult to work there. In the summer, Khamatova presented a one-man show “Post Scriptum”, dedicated to the terrorist attack on Dubrovnik. Despite favorable reviews from critics and winning the Latvian Theater Award, the project was put on hold.

It was planned that the actress will play the main role in a theater performance based on Natalie Vorozhbit’s play “Bad Roads”, about the events of 2014 in Donbass. However, the playwright banned the participation of actors from Russia in productions of her play. Later, the management of the theater abandoned this idea of ​​staging a production based on the story of Nikolai Gogol “Owners of the Old World”. The art director said it was a “creative failure”.

The actress hopes to get a role in the next play. Another star emigrant, Renata Litvinová, who moved to Paris with her daughter Ulyana and her friend Zemfira, should appear on stage with her in the interpretation of Jean-Paul Sartre’s play “Behind Closed Doors”. But while bureaucratic problems are being solved, Khamatova decided to play it safe and look for work in another country in the post-Soviet space. On March 8, she arrived in Georgia and held talks with the head of the Russian Drama Theater in Tbilisi named after Alexander Griboedov, Nikolai Sventitsky.

Details of Chulpana’s possible cooperation with Georgian partners have not yet been published. A photo of Khamatova and Sventitsky appeared on the website. The actress appeared in a casual look – she combined a warm black tracksuit with a puffy vest. The star completely abandoned makeup, her image was complemented by a laconic bracelet.

Earlier, the artist complained about her publicity. She stated that if she could go back in time, she would never have chosen acting as a profession.
