Irina Viner has been married to businessman Alisher Usmanov for 30 years. He proposed to her in the early 1980s when they both lived in Tashkent. Usmanov was then in prison on charges of bribery and fraud, but immediately after the conclusion he sent his beloved a scarf – according to Uzbek custom, it is a symbol of a marriage proposal.
In 2022, the couple divorced, although not everyone immediately believed in their separation – this couple seemed so strong and ideal. Viner’s students said that Usmanov sometimes came to the training room, but did not dare to disturb his beloved until she finished her business and modestly waited in the corner.
She appreciated that the man gave her the right to do her own thing, but she herself did not underestimate her role in Usmanov’s success. Here’s what Wiener once said about it:
“As the audience makes the actor, so the wife makes the husband. At the woman’s request, the man becomes exactly who she invented. As in the song: “If I came with you, become what I want.” I always told Alisher, “You’re a genius! You’re great!” And he became one, although he went through many trials. He despaired, but I still said that everything would be fine, even though it was unrealistic to think about it at the time. I always knew he was great.”
Wiener generally confirmed the old truth that the woman in the family is the head of everything.
