“Shock news”: 23-year-old Russian champion Leyla Salyamova died in a car accident 13.01.2023, 09:40

The fatal accident took place at 1:30 pm on Thursday at the 163rd km of Sortavala highway in Lakhdenpokh area. The traffic police in Karelia reported that the driver and female passenger of the Mitsubishi were killed as a result of a collision between a Mitsubishi Lancer and a Volkswagen Tiguan. The driver and passenger (female) from the Volkswagen were hospitalized.

Today it emerged that the deceased passenger was the 2021 high diving champion of Russia, Leyla Salyamova. This was announced by the Ministry of Sports of Tatarstan. The news of the tragedy was confirmed by the president of the Russian Diving Federation, Stanislav Druzhinin.

“Our athlete Leyla Salyamova died in a car accident. This is shocking news for us. She is 23 years old and I can’t imagine the horror her parents and relatives are going through right now. My condolences to all of them. I will say for myself and for the federation that we will help in every possible way, including the organization of the funeral. Now we are contacting relatives on this matter, ”TASS quotes Druzhinin.

Leyla Salyamova was born on March 24, 1999 in Saratov. In 2014, she became the bronze medalist of the Russian Cup in synchronized diving with Maria Kazakova. On January 11 of the same year, she took part in the relay with the Olympic torch at the Winter Olympics. She worked as an artist in the diving show Aqua Planet Jejuruen in South Korea. In 2020, she resumed her sports career and changed her specialization to high diving. In 2021, she became the champion of Russia. Salyamova was the first Russian jumper to qualify for the women’s event at the World Championships.

In August of last year, the daughter of the philosopher Alexander Dugin died in a car explosion in the Moscow region. Daria was 29 years old. Doctors named the cause of her death. The girl’s murder was solved. Her car was mined by Ukrainian Natalya Vovk.
