The release of the film “Carnival Night” was in a sense a coincidence. In 1955, Eldar Ryazanov planned to start shooting the drama Meeting in Kamchatka, but at Mosfilm he was offered to pay attention to a comedy script that had been collecting dust on the shelf for a long time. The young director didn’t have to choose, but he got down to work without much enthusiasm.
After correcting the script, Ryazanov began to look for actors. The most difficult thing was with Lenochka Krylova: the actress was not in this role. It is interesting that Lyudmila Gurchenko failed the first tests in this film. She ran into a novice cameraman, who put on bad lighting, in which she appeared in the most unfavorable form.
As a result, Ludmila Kasyanova was approved for the role of Krylova, but already on the third day of filming it became clear that the actress did not cope with the task and the picture did not add up. Fortunately, Ivan Pyryev, who once met Gurchenko in the corridors of Mosfilm, immediately brought her to the director and insisted on further consideration of her candidacy. This time everything worked out. Lyudmila joined the role so organically that in the end her heroine came to the fore, although it was not originally planned.
Nevertheless, it was decided to work on the appearance of the actress. To make Gurchenko’s face look prettier, more harmonious and more mischievous, she raised the tip of her nose with a special adhesive tape that quietly “walks” along the root of her nose. It’s this little detail that completes this look.
