The Olympic champion from 2006 is gradually returning to a full life. Roman spent 175 days under medical supervision, the skater’s doctors amputated his legs and arms. However, Kostomarov showed strength by starting active training under the supervision of a mentor.

The doctors connected Roman to a ventilator, after which they transferred him to a medically induced coma. A long stay on the ventilator caused complications. Kostomarov’s blood circulation was disrupted, necrosis began.

In March, the figure skater’s condition began to improve. He recovered and began to speak. The athlete was ready for prosthetics. He was released from Kommunarka in July. Roman thanked the specialists who fought for his life. The champion also turned to his wife Oksana Domninová, who did not leave him alone in the hospital.

Kostomarov willingly shows fragments of his training. The skater receives support from both relatives and stars of Russian show business. Other famous athletes were especially worried about him.
