The creator of the film “Land of the Deaf” experienced a tragedy in February of last year – his 40-year-old wife, theater and film star Yevgenia Brik, died after a battle with cancer. The director has a daughter, Zoya, who is now 13 years old.

The day before, Valery launched the Pilot series festival, of which he is the president. The ceremony took place at the railway station in Ivanovo. The director has been living in the USA for a long time, he could not attend the event in person – Todorovsky addressed the audience via video link.

Many viewers noticed how the filmmaker went gray after the death of his wife. The widower thanked everyone who presented their works and wished good luck to the participants of the festival. Friends of the director said that he did not go out of grief and still painfully perceives the loss.

Valery fell in love with Evgenia at first sight, when the 19-year-old student came to audition for the TV series “Law”, which was produced by the future chosen one. The girl was not accepted into the project, while Todorovsky tried to calm her down – she did everything perfectly, she just did not exceed her age. The director and the actress kept their romance a secret for a long time. For the sake of Brik, the man left the family – after 20 years of marriage, he divorced Natalya Tokareva. The former spouses have a 36-year-old son, Peter, and a 27-year-old daughter, Evgenia.

The lovers modestly registered in the registry office of the capital and refused exuberant celebrations. Since 2008, Valery and Evgenia lived in Los Angeles and came to Russia for work. In August 2009, the actress gave birth to a long-awaited daughter at a clinic in New York. On February 11, 2022, the actress died. It was a complete surprise, both to fans and to numerous artists, because Eugene did not advertise the disease. Only those closest to her knew about her painful battle with cancer.

In 2022, Todorovsky dedicated his late chosen one to the series Nadvoe, which starred Danila Kozlovsky, Alexander Petrov and Irina Starshenbaum. The project tells about the destinies of heroes whose lives changed dramatically after a chance meeting. That’s exactly what happened after a brief acquaintance with Yevgeny and Valery.
