The Kia EV9 is one of the greatest electric cars!

The Kia EV9 is one of the greatest electric cars!

A year ago we showed the Kia EV9 concept car. Now there is also an actual concept model. Strikingly, this production model existed before the EV9 concept car. The concept car was built solely to introduce the world to one of the greatest electric cars. So, behind the scenes, this electric vehicle has been ready for a long time.

It is clear that Kia wants to serve the American market with the EV9. The car is more than 5 meters long, almost 2 meters wide, almost 1.8 meters high and has a wheelbase of more than 3 meters. Despite its angular shape, the car has a drag coefficient of “only” 0.28. It doesn’t compare very well to other electric cars, but if you look at the shape, it does. After all, a significantly smaller Audi e-Tron Q4 has the same drag coefficient.

Kia EV9 also available with normal mirrors

Although the nose looks square, some smart aerodynamic choices have been made due to the vents and air deflectors. The lack of mirrors also contributes to this. The Kia EV9 is available with regular mirrors.

Interior of one of the largest electric cars

The Kia EV9 can be ordered with 6 or 7 seats. If you choose 7, the second row of seats becomes a sofa. The special thing about these seats is that you can turn them around and talk to the people in the third row.

(Image: Kia) At least that’s the idea. In practice, this doesn’t work, as you can see in the video. Legroom and headroom, on the other hand, are good in every row of seats.

Powertrains Kia EV9

You can order the Kia EV9 with rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The entry-level model only has an electric motor on the rear axle, which delivers 204 hp and 350 Nm of torque. This allows you to sprint from 0 to 100 in 9.4 seconds. In the all-wheel drive variant, you have two electric motors with 192 hp at your disposal. In the cheapest all-wheel drive, these deliver 250 Nm of torque on the front axle and 350 Nm of torque on the rear axle. In the more expensive GT line, both deliver 350 Nm. The 100 Nm Extra can also be downloaded later.

The total output of the top model is 385 hp and 700 Nm. With this version you sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds. The cheaper all-wheel drive takes 0.7 seconds longer.

The battery of one of the largest electric cars

Whichever version you choose, there is always a 99.8 kWh battery in the bottom. Just like its smaller brother on the same platform, the EV6, it can be charged via an 800-volt electrical system. Kia has not yet announced the charging speeds of the EV9, but the brand says that the rear-wheel drive battery can be charged for 239 kilometers in 15 minutes. The AWD version comes back 20 kilometers less with the same charging time. The range is 541 kilometers for rear-wheel drive and 497 kilometers for all-wheel drive.

The Kia EV9 will come to the Netherlands at the end of this year. The price is still unknown. The electric vehicle should be cheaper than its competitor: the Volvo EX90.
