Why Alfa Romeo’s record sales aren’t that impressive
Alfa Romeo is happy like a child. The Italian brand posted record numbers for the first quarter of 2023. In Europe, market share doubled and sales increased by 136 percent. And that’s not all that impressive…
Fie, Autovision! The jubilation at Alfa Romeo breaks a bit with your grumpy grumbling. Be glad that the ailing brand seems to be back on the way.
Alfa Romeo gets another chance under Stellantis
And so do we. A beautiful brand like Alfa Romeo deserves no place in the auto industry drain. Good that the manufacturer has the opportunity to grow under Stellantis.
In Portugal it is no less than 400 percent
Because grow, that’s what Alfa Romeo does! The European average is 136 percent, but in some countries it was even faster. No fewer than 317 and 400 percent more Alfas were newly registered in Austria and Portugal.
The number of registrations in the home market of Italy rose by 188 percent. In the Netherlands things are not much worse for us. Alfa is on the rise here with 186 percent.
All of those wonderful numbers are a bit skewed
All those wonderful numbers are just a little skewed. Until recently, Alfa Romeo only had two models, the Giulia and the Stelvio, of which the brand sold fewer examples worldwide than Lancia’s Ypsilon. And Lancia is only active in Italy.
After Alfa Romeo added a new SUV to its product range with the Tonale, sales figures rose rapidly. And that’s quite a surprise, because if you hardly sell any cars, you’ll quickly hit the bull’s eye if there are suddenly more.
Alfa boss Imparato is rightly proud of his brand
“We are proud,” says Alfa boss Jean-Philippe Imparato rightly. “However, we are also aware that we must continue on this path with passion and determination in order to achieve our ambitious goals and plans.”
