Why you now pay 50 euros for 2 minutes parking in The Hague
Parking fees skyrocket everywhere, but very quickly in The Hague. A pilot project has been launched in some streets in the center whereby drivers always have to pay 50 euros, whether they park for 2 minutes or for a whole day.
The pilot project is running on several streets in The Hague and Scheveningen, where the municipality wants to ensure that there is enough parking space for residents. It is to be expected that tourists will switch to multi-storey car parks due to the high parking costs.
Parking in some streets in The Hague always costs 50 euros
First, the municipality will start with a one-year pilot project. Anyone who parks on the designated streets during this period immediately pays the maximum rate of 50 euros.
The local residents are very satisfied with the park pilot
The residents’ association of the old town is satisfied with the plan. “You can never park,” a spokesman told Omroep West: “You have to wait for someone to get in and drive off. But you just want to park in your own neighborhood.”
“We have a lot of empty parking garages in the area,” she continues, “but that’s not an option for residents. Residents only receive a road permit. So this plan is to distribute things more fairly.”
Entrepreneurs are less satisfied with the plan
Entrepreneurs are less satisfied with the measure taken by the municipality and are demanding an alternative. For example, a maximum parking time of fifteen to twenty minutes so that people can get to the store quickly.
The city of The Hague is continuously monitoring the pilot
The community says that for the time being they are hearing mainly positive tones. However, the pilot is continuously monitored. An evaluation takes place at the end of the probationary year.
