Watch the Honda Civic Type R break a Nürgburgring record
When Autovisie editor Dies van den Elzen drove the Honda Civic Type R for the first time, it was clear just how well the Japanese hot hatch is on track. As the culmination of the manufacturer’s work, the Civic Type R breaks a record on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife.
Setting a record on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife is an important goal for many manufacturers. Not only because it proves that the car is really fast and track capable, but also because a record in the “Green Hell” can be an additional reason for a customer to leave the competitor.

But what record can the Honda set in the prospectus with the Civic Type R? With a lap time of 7 minutes and 44.881 seconds, the model is the fastest front-wheel drive production vehicle on the 20.8-kilometer Nürburgring-Nordschleife.
So the lap was only driven with a Type R that anyone can buy. The record was broken with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 Connect tires.

Under the hood of the record-breaker is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 329 hp and 420 Nm of torque via turbo. If you shift gears fast enough with the manual seven-speed gearbox, you can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds. The party only stops at 275 kilometers per hour.
In addition to performance, improved aerodynamics is also an important aspect in setting a record at the Nürgburgring. Improved downforce as well as increased wheelbase and track width make the fastest Honda Civic Type R (factory) so far.
