Why croak?! Fiat was the best-selling Stellantis brand in 2022
Fiat is an ailing brand, we sometimes say. Only three models are delivered in the Netherlands, of which only the 500/500E sells very well. But the situation is completely different worldwide…
Stellantis is the merger group of Groupe PSA and FCA and has no less than fourteen (!) brands under it. Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Citroën, Dodge, DS, Fiat, Jeep, Lancia, Maserati, Opel, Peugeot, Ram and Vauxhall.
Fiat is bigger than Peugeot in the world
You’d think Peugeot is selling the best of the bunch, but nothing could be further from the truth. Fiat is wonderful the great success of Stellantis. Why? Because of the models it does not deliver in Europe but in Turkey and South America.
Stellantis has announced that Abarth and Fiat combined will have sold about 1.2 million new cars in 2022. That is significantly more than Peugeot’s 1.05 million.
Popular compact pickups in Brazil
In South America in particular, the Italians dominate with a market share of 21.9 percent, for example in Brazil. The bestsellers there aren’t the 500 or the Panda, but rather models we don’t know about, such as the popular Strada and Toro pickups.
Fiat is also doing very well in Turkey, where the manufacturer has an 18.7 percent market share, thanks largely to the locally produced Tipo. The brand is also the market leader in Italy with a market share of 15.1 percent.
One number that we need to put into perspective is the market share of the European city car market: 43.8 percent. After all, A-dividers are almost gone (because small cars don’t pay anymore), so you’ll soon have a big share.
New electric models this year
Fiat just announced this week that two new electric models will be added this year. Which they are has not been officially announced, but we dare you: a new Panda and a compact SUV based on Jeep Avenger.
