Lots of fines! Do the Dutch sometimes not know how Section Control works?
In 2022, exactly 8,153,043 fines were imposed. That is slightly more than in 2021 (plus 1.6 percent). More than 6.5 million prints were for speeding. The number that is still determined during section controls is striking.
You’d think motorists would know by now where the average speed controls are and how they work, but no…apparently they don’t. Of the 6.5 million speeding fines, more than 2 million were imposed as a result of a speed stop.
The flight control in Utrecht is responsible for most of the fines
On the A2 between Utrecht and Amsterdam, by far the most people went wrong. There is a section control in both directions, which found more than 575,000 speed violations in 2022.
The top 5 fastest speed controls complete the A4 between Hoofddorp and Nieuw-Vennep (213,503 fines), the A12 near Utrecht (200,597), the A4 at Leidschendam (188,900) and the A10 Ring West near Amsterdam (142,728).
That the number of roadside inspection fines fell from 2,103,772 in 2021 to 2,026,939 last year is due to increasing crowds (resulting in people being unable to drive faster) and a series of roadside inspections occurring during work hours have failed.
Significant increase in fines for illegal parking/standing still
What else can we say about the traffic fines imposed in 2022? That there is a significant increase in fines for illegal parking/standstill (plus 60,000). It’s probably just busier in the cities after the Corona crisis.
More cyclists and cars with foreign number plates penalized
Police also caught more cyclists busy with their phones: 53,259 in 2022 compared to 45,778 in 2021. More cars with foreign license plates were also caught (874,539 in 2022, 784,421 in 2021), probably around the Encourage people to travel again after Corona.
