Mazda is coming to Europe later this year with a large rear-wheel drive seven-seater SUV: the CX-80
You probably know the Mazda CX-60 from the extensive Autovisie tests. After the Japanese announced the CX-90 for the USA, we also get a large rear-wheel drive seven-seater SUV in Europe. The model is called CX-80.
“The CX-80 will essentially be a larger version of the CX-60. For example, it offers three rows of seats,” the brand’s CEO, Martijn ten Brink, told Automotive News Europe.
Mazda is coming to Europe with a large rear-wheel drive seven-seater SUV
Mazda’s CEO says the big, seven-seat, rear-wheel-drive SUV will be unveiled later this year. Mazda will eventually sell the CX-80 in Japan and other parts of the world as well.
The CX-80, like the CX-60, is said to be on Mazda’s basic rear-wheel drive platform. In the Netherlands, the CX-60 is currently only available as a plug-in hybrid.
The CX-80 has a powertrain from the Mazda CX-60
This powertrain of the SUV consists of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder. This engine block is a further development of the four-cylinder in the CX-5 and has an output of 191 hp and a torque of 261 Nm. In combination with an electric motor, which is good for 175 hp and 270 Nm of torque, the powertrain delivers a system output of 327 hp and 500 Nm.
The electric motor is placed between the four-cylinder and the eight-speed automatic transmission. A wet multi-plate clutch is used for shifting, which shifts more efficiently and quickly.
In the CX-60, the power of the electric motor and petrol engine is always divided between four wills.

Technically, the Mazda CX-80 is very similar to its smaller brother. Autovisie editor Peter Hilhorst shows how this technology works in the following video. Is the 300 hp Japanese enough to convince us?
