Subaru Solterra and Toyota bZ4X get much-needed update

Subaru’s first electric car, the Solterra, and its Toyota sibling, the bZ4X, are getting an update that users of the cars have been waiting for. The update should improve some of the car’s pain points.

Autovisie is currently driving the Subaru as an endurance test and quickly came to the conclusion that there are quite a few teething problems that make handling the Solterra difficult. You will find out what the Solterra results are after six months with the EV in a long-term test report.

Important update

Subaru tells Autovisie that after receiving feedback from customers and the media, they have decided to update. The Toyota bZ4X will also receive this update. Specifically, two points are addressed: range and charging.

Subaru Solterra range

The range of the Subaru is 465 kilometers according to WLTP. If you turn on the air conditioning, it suddenly becomes much less. According to Subaru, the new update offers “more accurate range prediction when using air conditioning”.

In addition, after the update, the actual energy consumption is also displayed in the instrument cluster and the brand says it is working on “optimizing the buffer and showing the charge status as a percentage on the display”. “Buffer” refers to the remaining range when the display shows 0 kilometers. According to Subaru, you can currently drive for quite a long time with a range of 0 kilometers on the meter.

burden

An update will also be carried out for the charging system of the Subaru Solterra and the Toyota bZ4X. Currently you can charge twice every 24 hours with the promised charging speed of up to 150 kW. There will be more after the update. It is still unclear how often the electric vehicle can be fast-charged per 24 hours.

Update Subaru Solterra and Toyota bZ4X for any car

Not only the cars that will roll off the assembly line in the future will be supplied with the update, existing cars will also receive the update, which will be installed remotely. It is still unclear when the new software will be rolled out
