The very first new Lancia is here! But what is it?

This is the Lancia Pu+Ra Zero. And that doesn’t really say much. Because what is that: a car, an aircraft, a paperweight?

We forgot to wish you a happy Lancia Design Day this week. We apologize. We were probably too busy deciphering this Lancia Pu+Ra Zero. We were actually expecting a preview of a new car at Lancia Design Day, but we didn’t get it. According to Lancia boss Luca Napolitano, we have to wait until April 2023 for that.

The first new Lancia will be launched in 2024

As you know, Stellantis made the interesting decision to revive Lancia. A brand that currently only sells cars in Italy, where the old Ypsilon is still amazingly successful.

The new generation will be launched in 2024, followed in 2026 and 2028 by an unnamed flagship (the name Aurelia is circulating) and the Delta. According to Napolitano, there will also be an HF Integrale version of the latter.

Pu+Ra Zero inspired by 1970 Stratos Zero

Stellantis has given its ailing Italian brand ten years to prove itself. That’s why we laughed when we read that the new design language called Pu+Ra Design “will define Lancia’s design for the next hundred years”.

So! You look ahead, there in Turin. And back, because the Pu+Ra Zero is inspired by the minimalist lines of the 1970 Stratos Zero.

Radiator grill reduced to a kind of 3D sculpture

Then what do we see? Round taillights, as they come back to the old rally heroes Stratos and 037, and a Lancia radiator grille, which should no longer bear the name radiator grille. This is not necessary, because Lancia is also fully electric.

The “radiator grille” has now become a kind of 3D sculpture made up of a black surface and three LED strips running towards one another. Also striking is the Pu+Ra Zero’s glass roof, which is round instead of rectangular.

Renewed logo and interior of the Italian furniture manufacturer

Any other news? Yes, Lancia will be collaborating with Italian furniture maker Cassina for the interiors of its future models. Also, the brand has introduced a renewed logo that reduces the old flagpole with the steering wheel behind it to a minimalistic whole. What is striking is that Lancia does not opt ​​for a flat, spartan logo, as is the trend, but still adds 3D elements.
