Why you would rather buy a used Mercedes-AMG than this new E53

The new Mercedes E-Class finally has an AMG version. But this E53 – and the later E63 – is not the desired variant.

Which one do you want? A used Mercedes-AMG E-Class because it still has the incredible eight-cylinder engine under the hood. Because in the new E-AMG it had to give way.

Mercedes-AMG E-Class

There will be two versions of the Mercedes-AMG E-Class, this E53 and later the E63. Both are equipped with a hybrid system and have a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder gasoline engine.

Plug-in hybrid

In the E53 there is a total of 585 hp, of which 612 hp in overboost. The system torque of 750 Nm corresponds to that of the predecessor E63, which produced 571 hp with its 4.0-liter V8.

The six-cylinder in the new E53 is good for 449 hp. It is supported by an electric motor with 163 hp, which is coupled with a 21 kWh battery, with which the AMG can travel 100 kilometers purely electrically.

The Mercedes-AMG E53 is all-wheel drive and sprints to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds (the T model is 0.1 seconds “slower”). The top speed is 280 km/h (275 km/h for the T model).

Undoubtedly very difficult

Mercedes doesn’t reveal anything about the vehicle weight of the E53, but we assume that it is significantly higher than the 1,900 kilos of its predecessor, the E63. The plug-in hybrid E 400 e already weighs almost 2,200 kilos.

Typically Mercedes-AMG

Mercedes equips the AMG E53 with, among other things, an adaptive chassis and rear-wheel steering. The vertical bars in the radiator grille, the four exhaust pipes and the “grids” behind the front wheels are typical AMG.

The Mercedes-AMG E53 is equipped with 19-inch light alloy wheels as standard. 20 or 21 inches are available as options. A limited-slip differential on the rear axle is available at an additional cost, as are active engine mounts.
