Euro NCAP is putting an end to Tesla interiors, here’s why
Tesla is (or was) a pioneer in the field of electric cars and has significantly changed the automotive industry. So far, the brand has significantly accelerated the transition to electric driving. The rise of Tesla has not only brought positive developments. Euro NCAP now wants to put an end to a major Tesla error.
Euro NCAP is an organization that gives cars a safety rating. They are known for their crash test videos.

However, Euro NCAP isn’t just about driving cars hard into a wall. All driving assistants are now included in the calculation of the final assessment. In this area, more expensive new cars such as Teslas usually perform well. Despite the good results, there is still a big problem with these Tesla interiors.
Teslas and now many other models from other car manufacturers have many functions that are integrated into the infotainment screen. As a driver, you sometimes have to take your eyes off the road for several seconds to adjust a simple function of your car or read the speed.
Euro NCAP intervenes
Euro NCAP technical director Richard Schram tells Britain’s Auto Express that they want to force car manufacturers like Tesla to build more physical controls into a car, especially for basic functions. In short: more buttons for functions that you need more often.
According to Schram, intuitive and user-friendly vehicle controls will also be tested from 2026. 5 out of 100 points that a car can achieve in terms of driving safety relate to this topic.
Not only is the current Tesla interior rated poorly by Euro NCAP’s new plans because of all the features hidden in a screen, but moving the turn signal to the steering wheel, for example, would also have a negative impact on the safety score. What exactly this means for the number of stars that a Model S receives, for example, is still unclear.
