This new Kia will go into production next year

Kia is showing off a brand new platform at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The brand is also showing three concept models based on this new architecture.

Modular platforms have been used in the automotive industry for a long time. However, Kia will not build any cars on the new platform Dedicated vehicles. The platform is therefore called PBV.

The new vehicles from Kia

These BPVs are actually just cars and vans. However, they are built with a different idea than, for example, the EV9 or the EV6.

The purpose of the vehicles is more to provide a mobility solution. Think of shared cars, taxi vans, parcel cars and all other forms of car-like road transport.

Kia is already giving an example of what the different models could look like on the new all-electric platform.

In production next year

The first model will be the PV5. This vehicle is available in many variants. It can be both a taxi van and a delivery van. A derivative of the PV5 will go into series production as early as 2025, Kia said.

The PV7 will follow later. This van is currently the largest vehicle on the modular platform. In addition to larger external dimensions, the vehicle also has a longer range and “extra functionalities”. Kia does not reveal what exactly these functionalities consist of.

The third vehicle on the new PBV platform is the PV1. As the name suggests, this is the smallest of the bunch. For example, PV1 focuses on logistics for the city center. New drive modules were used to reduce the turning circle.
