This Chinese electric vehicle gets a bizarrely low score in the crash test

Electric cars are usually new. Newer cars have more safety features so you are well protected on the road. Nevertheless, this new Chinese electric car managed to achieve 0 stars in a crash test.

The car was tested by Australia’s ANCAP. The test is similar to Euro NCAP.

The car in question is an MG 5. This model requires an explanation. In the Netherlands we know the MG 5, which we drove last year. However, this model is not the car that now received zero stars in the crash test. However, the model delivered in the Netherlands still has to be tested by Euro NCAP. The MG 5 from this crash test is a completely different car. The MG is therefore not only sold in Asia, but is also available in countries such as Mexico and Australia. In the latter country, the MG 5 currently does not have the best reputation.

Because zero stars in the crash test is not good advertising for the brand and model. The assistance systems were rated the worst at 13 percent. In the area of ​​safety for adult occupants, the car received 37 percent of the points. The car received 42 percent of the points for pedestrian protection and the MG 5 achieved 58 percent for the safety of children in the car.

Not every MG achieves a low safety value

However, this extremely poor review of the Chinese electric car does not mean that MG cars are unsafe. For example, the MG 4 Electric also drives around the Netherlands. This car achieved five stars in the Euro NCAP crash test in 2022 and was able to win tests against the competition due to its good price-performance ratio.
