The Lucid Gravity becomes a vehicle control cannon
American cars are usually much larger than European ones. If you want to drive a huge car despite the narrower European roads, you have to pay for it. For an American with a gasoline engine, this is significant, unless the license plate is gray. Let alone when there is a huge battery at the bottom, like the Lucid Gravity.
In 2026 there will no longer be any financial advantages for electric cars. At least if the regulations remain the same. This means that as an electric vehicle driver you will have to pay a lot of road tax.
The Lucid Gravity is gigantic
The Lucid Gravity is one of those cars that will significantly replenish the treasury. The car is more than 5 meters long, more than 2.2 meters wide and almost 1.7 meters high.
The capacity of the battery pack has not yet been communicated, but the battery will not be smaller than the 88 kWh pack that the cheapest Lucid Air is equipped with. The most expensive version of this model is even equipped with a 118 kWh battery. Whatever battery it is, you can at least charge it quickly. With the help of a 900 kW on-board electrical system, it reaches speeds of up to 300 kW at the DC charging station.
The electric motors connected to the Lucid Gravity’s battery produce more than 800 horsepower. This allows you to sprint the behemoth from 0 to 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour) in under 3.5 seconds. The American’s range is said to be more than 708 kilometers. There is no electric SUV that has a longer range.
Although the Lucid Gravity looks like the Polestar 3 from the side, it is actually a competitor to the Volvo EX90. In addition to the impressive specifications, the car also offers space for seven people. The electric vehicle itself is even larger than its Swedish-Chinese competitor.
Vehicle tax cannon
Lots of power, lots of seats, a big car and a big battery. It is a harbinger of a lot of weight and therefore a significant vehicle tax. After all, the Volvo EX90 as a Twin Motor Performance already weighs 2,811 kilograms. This model has a range of “only” 580 kilometers and produces 517 hp.
It is still unclear whether the Lucid Gravity weighs more than 3,000 kilograms. It definitely won’t be much less. Lucid has informed Autovisie that the model will certainly come to the Netherlands. Sales in America will begin at the end of 2024 with a starting price of $80,000. The SUV will also come to our continent later. So you won’t be able to enjoy a Lucid Gravity without road tax for long.
As a seven-seater, the Lucid not only has competition from the EX90, the significantly cheaper Kia EV9 also has up to seven seats. These cars are probably not comparable in terms of luxury and workmanship.
