Mercedes-AMG is slowly losing its cylinders: the new GLC Coupé 43 and 63
For enthusiasts, Mercedes-AMG means big, roaring eight-cylinder engines with plenty of power in luxury cars. In any case, you shouldn’t expect that in the new GLC Coupé. The 43 and 63 models both have four cylinders.
Of course, the Mercedes-AMG A-Class already had a four-cylinder engine and the C63 also lost four cylinders. A GLC without an eight or six-cylinder engine is therefore no real surprise. What’s probably even more shocking to enthusiasts is the fact that the new E63 reportedly won’t come with a V8.
Fewer cylinders
Back to the new Mercedes-AMG GLC Coupé 43 and 63. The new models therefore have a 2.0-liter four-cylinder. The GLC 43 has a mild hybrid drive. The petrol engine produces 407 hp and the starter generator produces 14 hp. The AMG GLC 43 sprints from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 4.8 seconds. The maximum speed is limited to 250 kilometers per hour.
The Mercedes-AMG GLC 63S E Performance Coupé
The top model is officially called the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63S E Performance Coupé and has a four-cylinder engine that produces 476 hp and a 204 hp electric motor. The system output is 680 hp and the maximum torque is 1020 Nm.
From a standstill, the AMG sprints from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 3.5 seconds. Acceleration only stops when the limiter intervenes at 275 kilometers per hour. Fully electric driving is only possible for 12 kilometers.
It is not yet known what the new Mercedes-AMG GLCs will cost.
